Incident Report | Yakima Safeway Parking Lot Shooting
The following has been compiled from eyewitnesses & local law enforcement social media.
Date | Monday, June 24th, 2024
Time | Approximately 7:10 p.m.
Location | Safeway parking lot, Nob Hill Blvd. & 24th Ave.
According to eyewitnesses, a gray Jeep Liberty allegedly attempted to run over a pedestrian on the west side of Safeway by Tony's Big Cheese Pizza. The pedestrian rapidly pulled out a gun and fired 5 shots at the Jeep.
The Jeep continued driving through the parking lot before crashing by 1Up Games. When the Jeep crashed, it hit another vehicle which caught on fire. Members of the Yakima Police and Fire Departments arrived almost immediately on-scene.
Outcome | The vehicle fire was extinguished. The driver of the Jeep was a juvenile and has been transported to Multi-Care Hospital with life threatening injuries. The pedestrian was located on-scene.
